The Instrumental Music Department is busy throughout the year with many different types of performances and activities!
In junior high, students are introduced to their instrument of choice, learn to read music and play their instrument through basic theory and repetitive practice, and they participate in the Fall Concert, Christmas Concert, district and other contests, and the Spring Concert. Junior high students can also serve in ministry at local assisted living centers/nursing facilities by providing musical programs throughout the year.
In high school, students who are members of the band are actively involved all year long in the music department Fall, Christmas, and Spring Concerts, and in addition, they play in the pep band at home football and basketball games thoughout the first and second semesters. The band ministers to local churches and organizations through music, small ensembles, and personal testimonies. Band members can also participate in district and state instrumental contests through the OSSAA (Oklahoma State Secondary Activities Association), Shortgrass Honor Band, and Oklahoma Music Educators Association All State Bands. Each spring, the band takes a tour to neighboring states to minister through music, using their talents to worship God with church congregations and civic groups.
