Web Site Offers Added Features, More Usability

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

CORN, Okla. — In August 0f 2009, Corn Bible Academy launched a new Web site design for the upcoming school year. With it came new features to help current students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the 107-year-old school stay informed about day-to-day activities and upcoming events. The site was developed by CBA alumnus Roman Rodriguez, G’05.

“I wanted a more modern look and feel for the Web site and I also wanted to add options that would make the site more user friendly and interactive,” Rodriguez said. “Many of the features are developed by third-party developers and are already familiar to the general public.”

One of the third-party applications is from AddThis. The application is visible on every page of the site and allows users to easily print, bookmark or share the page they are viewing with the click of a button.

“AddThis was an obvious choice because of its ease of use and it’s a trusted way of sharing information across the Internet.”

Other new applications and features include a Facebook fan page, a Twitter account, easier access to RSS news feeds, a web icon for iPhones and iPod touches, and online weekly announcements in a printable PDF format.

“Seeing our site come to life is exciting. So many people are connected through Facebook now, and to be able to reach people all over the world with current news from the school through this application has been a positive addition to our online capabilities,” said Rhonda Goering, web editor and marketing director. “These updates and improvements allow CBA alumni and students access to current news, schedule changes, and upcoming events while also connecting those who love the school through the use of technology.”

Rodriguez and Goering will continue to add functions to the CBA Web site as they look forward to launching a new photo gallery and online giving options by May 2010 as well as adding more news stories, athletics rosters and schedules, and more pages  of information throughout the school year.

“As we work on this site, we continually add pieces and pages that we feel will help engage our viewers and provide information to those who care about Corn Bible Academy,” said Rodriguez. “Web sites are a living being and grow and change with each passing day.”

As for the changes to the site, Goering hopes that “visitors will like what they see and will provide feedback. We are always open to suggestions and hope that the visitors understand that editing a Web site can take time.”

“I really like how the website looks more up-to-date,” said Skyler Voss, current student. “It’s cool that CBA also has a fan page on Facebook, and fans are kept informed with articles when something is going on at school.”

For more information about the new features, check www.CornBible.org. Helpful hints about the new features will be posted throughout the month of September and October.

The Posse Arrest the Outlaws in a Tough PowderPuff Match Up

Corn, OKLA.–Braving the frigid cold front that blew through the Oklahoma plains on Monday night, a group of law-abiding freshman and sophomore girls from Corn Bible Academy formed a “posse” to search for the crooked gang of “outlaws,” otherwise known as the junior and senior girls of CBA. In a nighttime “shootout” on a grassy field southwest of the sleepy town of Corn, a defensive fight was on between the two teams in a battle for the 2009 PowderPuff victory. It is the wild, wild west, you know, and these shootouts are common when Sheriff Thiessen (a.k.a. Mark Thiessen, CBA Principal) has gone to Dodge.

All seriousness aside, the teams came out ready to rope n’ hang their opponents, and in a very low-shooting/scoring contest, the Posse saved the day and the sleepy town of Corn when in the last “draw” of the night, a touchdown was scored and no blood was shed.

Under the watchful eye of snake-oil salesman Earl Sawatzky, and with the circuit judges, Todd Smith, Sean Wanzer, Kenny Schimmer, and Terry Fellenstein on the field, the settlers from Corn witnessed the 2009 PowderPuff Shoot Out and a good time was had by all!

The End
