Corn, OKLA — The Corn Bible Academy high school basketball teams competed in the first Community Christian School Invitational Tournament the week of January 4-9. After defeating Life Christian 53-50 in the first round, the guys lost to Community Christian 59-45 in the semifinals and 64-33 to Harvest Life in the 3rd place game on Saturday, January 9. Spencer Huiatt led the Crusaders in scoring for the tournament with 73 total points while Taylor Ensz and Jared Boese were CBA’s leading rebounders.
The girls’ team advanced to Saturday’s finals by beating Southwest Christian 59-24 and Community Christian 48-44. Emily Dick with 16 points, Taylor Smith with 15 points, and Jessica Penner with 13 points led the win over Southwest Christian. Ellie Troyer’s 15 points led the Lady Crusaders over CCS. In the finals against the homeschool team OKC Storm, the Lady Crusaders jumped out to a 16-8 halftime lead but poor shooting and numerous turnovers led to a 33-32 defeat and a second place finish in the tournament. Penner with 12 points and Dick with 10 led CBA in scoring. Penner and Dick were named to the All-Tournament team.
CBA hosts Hydro-Eakly on Tuesday, January 12, with junior varsity boys starting at 5:15, followed by varsity girls at 6:30 and varsity boys at 8:00. Friday evening, January 15, is Homecoming with the Crusaders hosting Gracemont. Start time is 6:30 p.m.
