Corn, OKLA. — The Corn Bible Academy high school guys and girls had successful endings to the West Central Oklahoma Basketball Tournament held at Clinton High School on January 18-23.
The guys bounced back from a 53-37 opening round loss to Thomas to win two straight and claim the consolation trophy. The Crusaders beat Calumet 58-44 on Thursday night behind 24 points and 16 rebounds by Jared Boese and 22 points by Spencer Huiatt. On Saturday, Pate Gossen’s 16 points, including four 3 point baskets, led the Crusaders to a 48-47 win over Arapaho.
On the girls’ side, the Lady Crusaders beat Sentinel, 47-41, in Tuesday’s opening round, and then lost a semifinal matchup with Thomas, 54-45, on Friday night. On Saturday, the girls recovered to beat Hydro-Eakly 42-27 in the 3rd place game. Echo Shantz and Jessica Penner both scored ten points in the loss to Thomas while Penner grabbed 16 rebounds. In Saturday’s game against Hydro-Eakly, Penner and Emily Dick each scored 11 points, while Ellie Troyer chipped in with ten points. Dick also had eight rebounds.
The Lady Crusaders’ record is 10-6 while the Crusaders improved to 5-11. CBA will play three games this week: Tuesday at Lookeba-Sickles, Friday at Gracemont, and Saturday at Cyril.
