Corn, OKLA.–The Lady Crusader volleyball team, under the leadership of Coach Cherilen Slagell, began the season this past week with matches against Cache, Clinton, and Hennessey. It was a mixed bag of results, but Coach Slagell is confident the team is headed in the right direction and is excited about the season.
“The girls tend to psyche themselves out. We start out playing horrible, but I’ve been proud of how the team sticks with it.”
Coach Slagell commented that part of the team’s struggle has been at the setter position. However, with the addition of RaeLyn Epp in that position, the coach feels that she has found the right person for the job. “RaeLyn has great hands and it will take some time, but she’s going to be a great setter for the team.”
She also commented that the team as a whole has improved their passing game this year. “Once we get everything together with our setter position, we should be a really good team. I’m excited about the season!”
Emily Dick, a veteran starter for the Lady Crusaders, agrees. “Against Hennessey, RaeLyn was good on setting, and we hit pretty well, too. If we work hard and get intense and serious about the game, we will do very well this year.”
