Corn, OKLA. — The Corn Bible Academy Lady Crusaders finished second in district play, losing to Hammon 57-52 on Saturday night, February 13. The girls made the district finals by beating Granite 50-39 on Thursday night behind Emily Dick’s 19 points and Jessica Penner’s 15 points. The team led all the way to win their first 1st round district game in three years. In the finals against Hammon, CBA had a 16-13 lead after one quarter but a bad second quarter put them down 30-23 at the half. CBA outscored Hammon 29-27 in the second half but it wasn’t enough to get the win. Emily Dick with 14 points, Taylor Smith with 11 points, and Skyler Voss with 10 points led the Lady Crusaders in scoring. Dick also finished with 10 rebounds. With the loss, CBA fell into the Consolation bracket for the Regional Tournament at SWOSU.
CBA Boys District Wrap-Up
The Crusaders had the same troubles as the Lady Crusaders on Saturday night against Hammon – a bad second quarter. After taking a 15-13 first quarter lead, the Crusaders were outscored 17-6 in the second quarter. CBA fought hard in the second half but could only shave two points off of a nine point halftime deficit, losing 53-46. Pate Gossen led the Crusaders with 17 points while Spencer Huiatt added 14. Taylor Ensz corralled 12 rebounds for the Crusaders.
CBA earned the finals by beating Granite 62-54 on Friday night. The Crusaders led all the way in the first round game. Spencer Huiatt with 28 points led the Crusaders in scoring while Taylor Ensz chipped in 12 and Jared Boese had 11 points. Boese and Ensz led CBA in rebounding with 13 and 11 rebounds, respectively. The boys advanced to the Consolation bracket of the Regional Tournament with their first round game against Verden at SWOSU.
