Corn, OKLA.–The Corn Bible Academy varsity volleyball team traveled to Tipton on Saturday, August 22, to participate in the first tournament of the season and came back home with the championship that evening. Going into the tournament, the Lady Crusaders were 1-1, with a loss to Cache and a win against Hennessey.
In pool play on Saturday, the team beat Fletcher 25-9, 25-13, then won against Snyder 25-11, 25-15, and finally ended pool play defeating Lawton Mac in two tight games 25-23 and 27-26.
CBA went into tournament play that afternoon seeded first from their pool play easily defeating Elgin 25-15, 25-8. The team then played Northside Texas in the semi-finals, winning against the out-of-state team 25-17, 25-15. Finally, in the championship match, the Crusaders lost their first game of the day but were victorious over Big Pasture in four games, 25-19, 17-25, 25-20, and 25-23.
“The girls played hard all day, and I was really proud of their efforts,” commented Coach Cherilen Slagell of the results. She also added that RaeLyn Epp is doing very well at the setter position, Alyssa Friesen is one of her most consistent players, and Emily Dick and Jessica Penner are strong hitters for the team.
The Crusaders have another full week with matches against Fletcher on Monday, Snyder on Tuesday, and Clinton on Thursday.
