Corn, OKLA — The CBA Crusader academic team competed in the OSSAA area II academic contest on January 18th with seven other schools from western Oklahoma. The Crusaders came in as the # 2 seed and faced the Timberlake Tigers in the first round. CBA took an early lead and won the match by a score of 130 – 40 which advanced them to the semifinals. The semifinal opponent, the Kremlin Hillsdale Broncs, were tough competition as the score was tied at 30 at the quarter and at 70 all at the end of the first half. The Crusaders managed to pull ahead 120-90 at the end of the third and hung on to win by a score of 180-160 which advanced them to the area championship against the #1 seed, the Drummond Bulldogs. The Crusaders jumped out to an early lead of 80-30 in the first quarter and that proved to be the difference as the Bulldogs were never able to overcome the deficit. The score at the half was 150-110 and the final score was 270-210 in favor of the Crusaders. The win earned the Crusaders the OSSAA area II championship and a trip the state academic tournament on February 4. Members of the academic team are McKenna Thompson, Carter Smith, Daniel Rempel, Chant Collins, Kim Javorsky, and Drew Geisler.
