Lady Crusaders Fall One Game Short of State Tournament

Corn, OKLA.–The Corn Bible Academy Lady Crusaders had their season ended Saturday night, February 27, at Chickasha High School with a 56-49 loss to Hammon in the Area Consolation Finals. The loss left the Lady Crusaders one game short of their first trip ever to the Class B State Championships.

In the Consolation Finals, the Lady Crusaders fell behind 17-9 after one quarter but battled back to trail 24-20 at halftime. CBA was able to cut two more points off of Hammon’s lead after three quarters, trailing by a 37-35 score.  Turnovers and shaky defense hurt the team in the fourth quarter. Jessica Penner led CBA in scoring with 17 points while Emily Dick had 12 and Ellie Troyer 11. Dick with 11 and Penner with 9 led the Lady Crusaders in rebounding.

In Thursday’s opening round of the Area Consolation bracket at Chickasha High School, the Lady Crusaders beat Earlsboro 68-34 behind Emily Dick’s 21 points and 18 rebounds. Jessica Penner chipped in 18 points and Alyssa Friesen added 10 points as CBA jumped to an 18-6 lead after the first quarter and never trailed in the game.

In Friday’s game against Big Pasture, Skyler Voss had three straight steals and lay-ups to spark CBA to a 27-5 advantage in the second quarter. The Crusaders led 36-9 at halftime and finished with a 61-44 win. Jessica Penner with 18 points, Emily Dick with 17 points, and Skyler Voss with 10 points and four steals led the team.

Coach Fellenstein commented, “The girls finished the season with a 21-9 record, advancing farther in the State Tournament than any other Lady Crusader team in the history of Corn Bible Academy.”
