Crusaders in West Central Tournament

Corn, OKLA — The CBA Crusaders will play in one of the premier Oklahoma small school basketball tournaments at Clinton during the week of January 16-20. The West Central tournament is being held at the Tornado Dome in Clinton and includes teams from Arapaho-Butler, Burns Flat–Dill City, Calumet, Canute, Corn Bible Academy, Hydro-Eakly, Sentinel and Thomas. The Lady Crusaders are the number two seed in the tournament and will face Sentinel at 4:00 pm on Monday, January 16. The Crusaders will face the number two seed Thomas also on Monday at 8:00 pm. Crusader coaches and players encourage all their fans to come out and support the teams as they compete this week.

Community Christian Invitational Scores

Corn, OKLA — The CBA high school basketball teams competed in the Community Christian Schools Invitational in Norman on January 5-7. The CBA girls won first place while the guys brought home the consolation trophy.

The Lady Crusaders beat Destiny Christian 51-33, Community Christian 48-42 and Liberty Christian 53-36. CBA had three players in double figures in the Destiny game, Jessica Penner with 21, Taylor Smith with 16 and RaeLyn Epp with 10. Against Community, Penner scored 30 points while Smith added 9 and Alma Salcido had 6. In Saturday’s game with Liberty Penner again led CBA in scoring with 21 while Leah Boese added 10 points. Penner and Smith made the all-tournament team.  The girls are now 8-3.

On the boys side, the Crusaders lost in the opening round to Destiny 60-26, then bounced back to beat the CCS JV 66-65 in overtime, and Liberty Christian 62-21 on Saturday. Scott Dick and Jay Penner each scored 7 points against Destiny while Penner scored 28 and Dick 15 in the overtime win against CCS JV. Dick with 18, Penner with 14 and Trevor Harms with 13 led the Crusaders to the consolation trophy. The boy’s record is now 5-6.

CBA resumes play in the Washita Valley Conference this week with home games against Hydro-Eakly Tuesday night and Binger-Oney on Friday night. Game times are 6:30 pm.

Crusaders to Participate in Community Christian Invitational

Corn, OKLA — On January 5-7, the Corn Bible Academy Crusaders will be playing competing with other Christian Schools at Community Christian in Oklahoma City. The Crusaders face off against Destiny Christian on Thursday with the boy’s game tipping off at 2:20 pm followed by the girl’s game at 3:40 pm. Community Christian is located in Norman, OK.

German Feast and Auction February 4

Corn, OKLA — Corn Bible Academy will be hosting the 48th annual German Feast and Benefit Auction on Saturday, February 4, 2012.  The authentic German food to be served includes verenika and smoked sausage, sauerkraut and desserts patterned after food the Mennonite settlers of the area would have enjoyed in the early 1900’s.  For those interested in a current adaptation of the menu a grilled sausage sandwich with baked beans is also on the menu.  The noon meal is from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and the evening meal is from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  The benefit auction consists of two separate events. Bidders can get involved in a silent auction/sale in the auditorium from 10:00 am until 1:30 p.m.  The live auction begins in the gymnasium at 12:30 p.m. All proceeds from the day benefit Corn Bible Academy.

Christmas Vacation Extended One Day

CBA Students Audition for Area Honor Band

Corn, OKLA — On Saturday, December 10, Corn Bible Academy had 15 students audition for the All-Area Honor Band and one student audition for the Shortgrass Honor Band. High school students that auditioned for the Area Honor Band were Regan Wherritt, Toni Watson, Aevry Hayes, Chandler Smith, and Renae Koehn. Koehn also auditioned for the Shortgrass Honor Band.  Junior High students who auditioned were Spencer Boese, Rusty Epp, Dylan Schmidt, Marissa Graf, Ruben Marrufo, Levi McAbee, Carter Smith, Christian Dowell, Katrina Wichert, and Cole McManaman.

The following students passed the audition and will be performing with the All-Area Honor Band on January 5-6 in Fairview, Oklahoma. High School Band: Renae Koehn on Flute, Aevry Hayes on Baritone, and Regan Wherritt on Clarinet. Junior High Band: Marissa Graf on Clarinet, Levi McAbee on Alto Saxophone, Carter Smith on Alto Saxophone, Cole McManaman on Trumpet, Dylan Schmidt on Baritone and Spencer Boese on Trombone.

Renae Koehn made the Shortgrass Honor Band and will be performing with the band on Friday and Saturday, January 13-14 at Elk City High School. Mr. Regier and Mr. Smith want to thank the students and their parents for putting forth the extra effort to prepare for the audition.

CBA Wraps Up Binger-Oney Tournament

Corn, OKLA — The CBA Crusaders and Lady Crusaders wrapped up the week long Binger-Oney Invitational with records of 2-1 for both teams.  The Crusaders beat Union City 49-40 Saturday to take the third place trophy after falling to Minco 58-38 on Friday.  The Lady Crusaders lost to host Binger-Oney 42-49 in the championship game after beating Minco 48-35 on Thursday.

Taylor Smith led the scoring attack for CBA against Minco with 18 points while RaeLyn Epp had 9 and Leah Boese and Jessica Penner each added 8. Penner led in rebounding with 12 while Boese had 10. In Saturday’s championship game, the Lady Crusaders held a 25-20 halftime lead and 37-34 lead at the end of three quarters. In the fourth quarter a dry spell of six minutes left CBA with a deficit too large to overcome.  Penner, Smith, Epp, and Alma Salcido each scored 10 points.  Penner and Smith were named to the all-tournament team.

Scott Dick led the Crusaders 3rd place win with 18 points while Jay Penner scored 13 and Antonio Marrufo 9. The Crusaders led 25-18 at the half and extended it to end the game.  In the semifinal loss to Minco, Dick again led the Crusaders with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Penner chipped in 8 points while Trevor Harms added 6. Dick was named to the all-tournament team. The Crusaders wrap up the first semester with a game at Hydro-Eakly on December 13.

CBA Christmas Concert December 16

Corn, OKLA — The annual Corn Bible Academy Christmas Concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. on December 16 in the CBA gymnasium.  The theme for this year’s concert is “Silent Night” and is directed by Charles Regier and Todd Smith. Students from grades seven through twelve will be performing as small groups in addition to the band and choir. The concert will end with a traditional singing of the Hallelujah Chorus. The music department will also have fruit for sale that evening.

Crusaders Win in First Round

Corn, OKLA — The CBA girls and boys each won their first round games at the 2011 Binger-Oney tournament. The Crusaders beat Geary 72-44 on Monday night behind a well balanced scoring attack. Trevor Harms led the way with 19 points while Scott Dick had 18, Jay Penner 16 and Antonio Marrufo 14. Penner collected 11 rebounds and Marrufo had 10. The Crusaders led 38-20 at halftime and extended their lead in the second half. Their semifinal game is on Friday at 5:30 P.M.
The Lady Crusaders beat Mt. View – Gotebo 55-11 in their opening game on Tuesday night. CBA jumped out to a 24-4 first quarter lead and were not challenged the rest of the way.  Jessica Penner led the scoring with 22 points while Taylor Smith added 13.  Penner led all rebounders with 10 while RaeLyn Epp had a good floor game with 8 assists and 7 steals. The girls semifinal game is 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

CBA to Receive Fruit Delivery

Corn, OKLA — The Corn Bible Academy music department will receive their order of fruit on December 7.  The students will be sorting and delivering the fruit and other food products starting on Wednesday afternoon. Thank you to all the supporters of the music department that participated in this fundraiser.
