And They Are Off!

Corn, OKLA.–On Thursday, August 13, school officially started at Corn Bible Academy and the halls are once again full of students rushing to make it into their seats on time before the bell rings. Approximately 80 students are enrolled in the private Christian  junior and senior high school located in rural western Oklahoma, including one student from Hong Kong and three students from Indonesia. Most of the student body reside in the area, but students also come from Elk City, Hobart, Hammon, Luther, Guthrie, Burns Flat and Thomas, and as far away as Spur, Texas.

Students spent the first day of classes in orientation and received their first assignments. On Friday, all of the students participate in the Student Council sponsored Back-to-School Party that takes place at Quartz Mountain, and returning students attend a yearbook signing party at the school in the late afternoon.

The volleyball and football teams are off to a great start with two-a-day practices, and enthusiasm for the season is high as the teams begin to unite and work together to accomplish their goals. The volleyball team is coached by Cherilen Slagell and the football team is led by Terry Fellenstein.

The senior high band and choir are under the direction of Charles Regier and Todd Smith, and the fall schedule for both groups and their directors is full with pep band, parade marching, auditioning for honor groups, performing at local nursing homes, and preparing for the annual Fall Concert.

The school theme for the year is “W.I.L.D. – Within the Lord’s Design,” based on Ephesians 2:10.  Each teacher will use the theme in their classes and activities.  Student Council officers designed a themed t-shirt for students and supporters to wear throughout the year.

As summer begins to fade in Corn with the start of a new school year, the excitement of 2009-2010 is bright and beginning to show the promise of a great year at CBA.
