Miraculous Music, Brilliant Books, and Marvelous Movies, Today’s Pop Culture

CORN, Okla.–Even though most of us are Christians here at Corn Bible Academy (CBA), many people have different likes and dislikes in music, books, and movies, whether it’s Christian-based or not. To find out what is popular through everyone’s eyes right now, I asked some of my classmates and teachers from CBA what they enjoy.

Music time! Everyone has their favorite genres of music that they enjoy. This enhances our individuality by making us think differently.

“I enjoy country and rhythm and blues (R&B).” says Carolyn Koop. “I like country because I have grown up with it, and it makes me feel happy. I like R&B because it has a lot more variation.”

Kristin Kliewer said, “I really don’t have a favorite type of music. I like everything except country and rap.”

“I like techno,” says Leah Ashcraft. “I like it because it is very creative and it’s catchy. It’s also got a really good beat; it makes me want to tap my foot!”

Now it’s off to books. I asked various people what their favorite book was, and some of their choices were a little different than mine, but they are still good.

Mrs. Coffey said, “My favorite book would have to be ‘A Walk to Remember.’ I love this book because I like its story line and the way the author writes the story.”

Mrs. Goering said, “My favorite book right now is ‘Deadfall’ by Robert Liparulo. I love this book because it has an interesting story line and it’s one of the author’s new books. It’s also twisted, which makes it hard to put down!”

Katie Bartel said, “My favorite book is ‘Brink of Death’ by Brandilyn Collins. I like this book because it’s a REALLY GOOD Christian novel. It’s so good I can’t even describe it!

Next is movies. They take up a lot of time these days. People watch them one after another, and repeat them every so often. They know exactly what is going to happen, yet they still keep watching them hoping something else will pop out. I asked a few people what their favorite movie was. This is what they had to say:

“My favorite movie is ‘The Sound of Music,’” says Jennifer Bose. “I like this movie because it has a lot of singing, and the songs are very pretty.

“My favorite movie is ‘P.S. I Love You,’” says Kayla Kennedy. “I like this movie because it’s romantic and sweet.”

“My favorite movie is ‘Sweet Home Alabama,’” says Ashlyn Taylor. “I like this movie because it has a good story line, and it’s just a great movie.”

As you can see, many people have different likes and dislikes in music, books, and movies. Some people go for the more Christian things to listen to, read, and watch. Others not so much, but they still are allowed to have their voice.
