The Class in the Library

CORN, Okla.–Chances are, if you are reading this article of the first time on the school website, then you aren’t on the yearbook staff at Corn Bible Academy. The few, the proud, the yearbook staff. They are the ones that create the yearbook to commemorate the school year. But of course, there wouldn’t be a yearbook staff if there wasn’t a yearbook class.

A fifth hour high school elective taught by the high school choir instructor/librarian Rhonda Goering and high school English teacher, Robina Coffey, these two hardworking women are the heart and soul of the class. They’re in charge of nine girls, all of whom very much enjoy the class, so much so, that a few of them have transferred TO yearbook from another class. For example, Alica Hendricks, who transferred at the beginning of the new semester in January had this to say about the class, “Coming in the middle of the year, I didn’t know what to expect. I found out there were some really cool people in here.” This is just one of the great things she had to say about the class.

But of course, like all realities, there aren’t quite as many great things to say about actual class time, because no matter how fun it is, when it gets down to the nitty gritty, yearbook IS class. Not only do the nine students create each yearbook page, the teachers also require each student to write news articles, such as this one. And they all know when it is time to have fun and when it is time to sit down and work hard. When asked to comment about not only the assignments that they do in the class and working on the yearbook, but also the “goofing off” that takes place, Echo Shantz answered, “I’d rather not answer that,” with a smile on her face, of course, because she too does enjoy yearbook class very much.

So remember, the next time you sit down to look through a CBA yearbook, or perhaps your own, remember that there is always a yearbook staff behind the scenes who work very hard on the outcome of what will be placeholders for memories of every person who walks the halls of the school.
