Vocal Music Students Superior at District Contest

CORN, Okla.–On February 14, several high school students and junior high students from Corn Bible Academy participated in the OSSAA District Vocal Solo and Ensemble Contest held at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. The students had been preparing for the contest since their return from the Christmas break and their hard work was evident in their scores at the end of the day.

Both the high school guys and girls ensembles received superior ratings and advance to the State Vocal Contest in April. Members of the guys ensemble include Byron Detweiler, Blake Engelman, Caleb Glennie, Joshua Hall, Trent Switzer, Jacob Wall and Lendon Warkentin. Members of the girls ensemble include Emily Dick, Alica Hendricks, Heather Hendricks, Skyler Voss, Amanda Wedel and Kelsey Wichert.

In addition, three high school students also prepared solos for the competition, and all three students will advance to the State Contest after receiving superior ratings from their judge. These students are Caleb Glennie, Joshua Hall and Amanda Wedel.

Also competing in the contest that day were six junior high students who sang solos for competition. Reesa Warkentin received a good rating, Ashleigh Horn and Noe Aguirre scored excellent ratings, and Rachel Deweiler, Jasilin Hall and Braden Hartsell earned superior ratings.

On Tuesday, February 24, the high school choir also participated in the OSSAA District Vocal Contest at Southwestern Oklahoma State University under the direction of Rhonda Goering and assisted by Charles Regier. The choir received two superior ratings and one excellent rating in concert, and an excellent rating in sight reading. The choir will advance to the State Vocal Contest in April as a result of their superior performance.
